Columbus Catholic Schools Holds Open Houses; Shadow Dayposted on January 9, 2020
MARSHFIELD, WI – Have you ever wondered what it would be like to attend Columbus Catholic Schools? Our Admissions Department has two events that are open to the public that can answer your questions!
Columbus faculty and staff invite prospective families – and current preschool and 4K families – to attend one of our upcoming Open Houses. Find out how a faith-based, safe, caring environment with strong academics and small class sizes can positively affect your child’s future! Our open houses will be:
January 27, 2020 from 5:30-7:00 at St. John the Baptist Primary School (3-year-old Preschool through 2nd grade), 307 N. Walnut Ave., Marshfield, WI.
January 28, 2020 from 5:30-6:30 at Our Lady of Peace Intermediate School (3rd through 5th grade), 1300 W. 5th St., Marshfield, WI.
At Columbus Catholic Schools, we offer 3- and 4-year-old half-day and full-day preschool; and all day 4K and 5K. “Our well-rounded curriculum is focused on play-based learning,” said Elizabeth Weiland, Preschool Teacher at St. John the Baptist Primary School. “We introduce academic concepts, as well as aid them in their social and emotional development. Getting a jump start on school helps children with their problem-solving and communication skills and assists them in preparing them for their transition into elementary school.”
Your child can be a “Don for a Day” and see if Columbus is the right fit! Visiting students will spend the day in the classroom where they will meet other students, participate in classroom activities, and discover the Columbus difference. This year, Shadow Day will be February 17, 2020 at all of our school locations (including the Middle School and High School) during the school day (7:40am – 2:45pm). Participants will need to pre-register on our website.
The “Columbus Promise” is: for every student who wants to attend Columbus Catholic Schools, we will try our hardest to make it a reality! We intentionally keep tuition as low as possible to keep it affordable for everyone. For example, the “Cost to Educate” a student at St. John Primary School is over $8,000 but last year we charged $2,793 in tuition. We make up the difference with private donations and fundraising events.
We participate in the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP), which offers FREE tuition vouchers to low income families. If your income is at or below 220% of the federal poverty level, you can send your student to a private school free of charge. The deadline to apply for WPCP is from February 3, 2020 to April 16, 2020. “Once a student has a voucher, he or she remains eligible through high school graduation with only a simple reapplication each year,” said David Eaton, President of Columbus Catholic Schools. “The voucher covers all tuition, fees and educational field trips. For more information, visit our website or call 715-387-1177 to set up a time to come in and complete an application.”
Additionally, we offer payment plans, tuition assistance and have over 30 scholarships for undergrads. Many families also take advantage of our Gift Card Program and Referral Program to save even more money on tuition. Plus, in Wisconsin, tuition at a private school is tax-deductible!
Admissions Events for Current Students At Columbus Catholic Schools, students matter – so we also offer a number of events to help our current students and their families have a great experience. On January 17, 2020, we offer Stepping-Up Day to students who are transitioning to a new building. They have the opportunity to spend a day at their next grade level, learn about the work and schedules, and meet the new teachers. Grades that “Step-Up” are second graders (moving up to Our Lady of Peace School), fifth graders (moving up to Middle School) and eighth graders (moving up to High School).
In February, we hold Parent Nights at our elementary schools so families can see what the students have learned so far this year; and in April, we hold a series of “Next Year and Beyond” events for students from preschool to ninth grade to give families an overview of what to expect in the 2020-21 school year.
